Microsoft Windows 10 support ended on 14 October

Windows 10 support ended on 14 October. Read what this means for your computers and how we help you switch safely.

Windows 10 support ended on 14 October. Since then, Microsoft no longer provides free security updates, bug fixes or technical help for Windows 10. Your computers will keep working, but they become more vulnerable over time. That is why it makes sense to act now.

What does the end of Windows 10 support mean?

Without updates, new security flaws stay open. Attackers target old, unsupported systems in particular. Software suppliers will also stop supporting Windows 10 over time. Programs may then show errors or stop starting altogether.

Do you run a business? Then more is at stake. You often work with customer data, accounting records and other sensitive information. An unsafe computer is a real risk to your organisation.

What are your options?

You have roughly three choices.

  • Switch to Windows 11. This is the recommended route for most businesses. You get regular updates again and a system that stays supported for years to come.
  • Buy Extended Security Updates (ESU). Microsoft offers security updates for Windows 10 for a while longer, for a fee. It is a temporary fix, not a lasting one.
  • Switch to Linux. Think of a user-friendly distribution such as Ubuntu, Linux Mint or CachyOS. Linux is free, gets regular updates and also runs well on older computers that cannot handle Windows 11. For individuals and small businesses that mainly use email, the internet, office software and cloud applications, it is often a good alternative. One caveat: if you need specific Windows software, we first check whether a suitable alternative exists.

You can read the official details on Microsoft's end-of-support page.

Can your computer run Windows 11?

Not every computer can run Windows 11. It sets requirements for the processor and the security chip (TPM 2.0), among other things. Older devices sometimes do not meet them. In that case, replacing the device or switching to Linux is wiser than forcing the system to keep going.

That is why we start with an overview. We look at which computers you have, which ones can run Windows 11, and which ones need replacing or are suitable for Linux. We also check that your business software works properly after the switch.
